Tekken 4 brings back "Tekken Force" a beat 'em up minigame with enhanced new features. The game also introduces a brand new graphics system, that had increased lightning, smoother surfaces, and dynamic physics. After the match ends and selecting the 'Statue' stage again, you will hear more background music from Tekken 2 while the match restarts. Position changes and moving before the fight starts were also introduced in Tekken 4, but later removed in future iterations. Tekken 2 reference While choosing the 'Statue' stage at the character selection screen and the match starts, you will hear background music based on Tekken 2. This new feature allows players to juggle with their opponent for consecutive combos. For the first time, players are able to maneuver around an arena and interact with walls and other things for extra damage. Tekken 4 introduces a significant new gameplay changes from the previous Tekken games.

The game was later released on the PlayStation 4 in 2002 (March 28 in Japan, September 13 in Europe, and September 23 in North America), adding a new system of unlocking characters (with two additional hidden characters), an update to the previous installment's "Tekken Force" minigame, and an updated Arcade mode (known as "Story Battle", featuring bonus cutscenes). The story is set two years after the events of Tekken 3 (where Jin Kazama, now possessed with the "Devil gene", defeats the mysterious entity known as Ogre and disappears), as Heihachi Mishima forms a fourth King of Iron Fist Tournament to lure out both his son Kazuya (who survived being thrown into a volcano) and his grandson Jin, as both of them possess the "Devil gene" necessary to splice with a sample of Ogre's blood to make Heihachi immortal.
